Biography

Apagyi Mária, Weiner Leó- and Apáczai Csere János-Prize Winning Artist-Teacher of piano, is one of the best known Hungarian exponents of improvisation and integrated teaching of music and visual arts, also internationally.

Apagyi Mária was born in Kassa (in Slovakia today) on 11 October 1941, by father Apagyi (Poneváč) Zoltán and mother Apagyi Margit. Apagyi Mária is married with Lantos Ferenc DLA, Academic and Kossuth Prize Winning Artist.

Apagyi Mária achieved her school-leaving certificate in Kaposvár, in the Ladies’ Grammar School Munkácsy Mihály in 1960, and then continued her studies in Pécs at the Music Teachers’ Training Institute of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, where she was awarded a teaching diploma in piano and solfeggio in 1964, and as an oboe teacher in 1969.
